Today brings us a new track from PRTLND veteran, Cool Nutz,
featuring one of the city’s brightest hopes – TxE.
The song, “A Love” is a last minute leak from Nutz’s The Cook Up,
before the full album drops as a free download tomorrow.
For those who aren’t up,
Cool Nutz is a PRTLND hip-hop pioneer in the truest sense.
Releasing his first album, Harsh Game For The People, in 1997 -
he was one of the first rappers to put Portland, OR on the map;
& releasing it independently on his own Jus Family Records,
he paved the way for the city’s DIY indie scene.
& w/ The Cook Up, his first free release,
he breathes new life into his always consistent catalog,
by collaborating w/ much of the city’s up-and-coming talents,
while still remaining true to his trademark sound.
“A Love” is a shining example of just that -
a radio-friendly track that utilizes all three of TxE’s members,
w/ Nutz trading verses with both Tope & Epp (who also provides the hook),
all being produced by TxE’s backbone, G_Force (aka Calvin Valentine) -
the song comes together as a perfect culmination btwn two distinct styles.
TxE will be found in good company on the project,
as the rest of the album also features production from the likes of
DJ Quik, Lawz Spoken, TROX, as well as Tope himself w/ 3 tracks,
+ appearances from Illmaculate & OnlyOne of Sandpeople, talkbox king Bosko & more.
