Just when we thought we never wanted to hear
another J Dilla tribute project again,
one of our current favorite jazz artists –
Atlanta’s own Darryl Reeves, & his quartet -
comes along & does one so on-the-money,
that even the most jaded Dilla fan would have to eat crow.
With a greater attention to detail than The Roots’ Sandwiches,
& less interpretative than Robert Glasper’s “Dillaludes” -
Reeves & co.’s Dillaquarium definitely carves out
a proper stake in the Dilla-inspired jazz niche,
while avoiding many of the pitfalls
that so many other “tribute” projects fall victim to.
You can stream the project in full here

We’ve also included a few videos
of the band live in session,
for your viewing pleasure
after the jump.
Shout out to Vahe for pointing us in the right direction on this one.
