New music from Kansas City, MO singer/producer, Miles Bonny and LA-producer, DJ Day for you guys today. The two have teamed up for a cover of “Still Ray” by Raphael Saadiq (which of course itself was inspired by Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E.”). They’ve released the song as a free download and Miles Bonny even made a self-directed video for it.
The video’s transcripts reads, “There exists a location that frames Miles’ current life. An abandoned hotel in the region Miles serves as a social worker, is the perfect spot for him to express his relationship to money, love, and the ongoing struggle to find a balance between societal expectation and personal spirituality. His mind, a swirling wind of obligation and inspiration is demonstrated by layered images, simultaneously finding solace in beautiful audio and video composition.” But basically, its Miles Bonny picking icicles and dancing on a stoop – double exposed. Awesome.
“Of course, this is also a homage to the original song, beautifully written, performed, and presented.” Word. You can also check out Day’s blog, Like A Throttle for the full story on their version came about.
You can watch the video & download the aptly titled, “Still Miles,” below. Also be sure to check out the bonus track – a solo Saadiq cover by DJ Day of “Skyy, Can You Feel Me”
