Following up on last month’s announcement,
today we’re very excited to let loose
the first album single from Low Leaf‘s new project,
& our next label release, AKASHAALAY.
With the whole project being a tribute
& conceptual message to Low Leaf’s homeland of the Philippines -
it felt only right to start things off with “Rise Up,”
Low’s new anthem, calling for the islands to unite and overcome,
as premiered by our friends at Okayplayer this morning.
She explains further,
“‘Rise Up’ is a vibratory message of restoration and empowerment to the collective Filipino psyche. In an effort to de-colonize, cleanse, and heal the wounds of history & recent natural disasters – the time is ripe now, more than ever, for the Filipino spirit to be reborn in full form. As the divine generation, our ancestors that have lived and died for us to co-create our culture through music & art are speaking through us, and guiding our hearts to a new awakening. So, people of the world – how we gonna rise up?”
You can stream “Rise Up” in full here,
& after the jump below,
you can watch a live, in-studio performance
of another AKASHAALAY highlight, “As One”
recorded last year for the Kinda Neat podcast.

Today we’re proud to announce
that our next official label release
will come to us by way of
the one & only Low Leaf.
One of our favorite artists
for a few years now,
we couldn’t be more excited
about working with her
on her new album, AKASHAALAY.
With its title being a combination of
the Sanskrit word for “ether”
and Tagalog for “offering” –
the project is a full-length dedication to
Low Leaf’s homeland, the Philippines:
its people, its nature,
its rich, but bloody, history, and its bright future –
embodying a range of island-inspired emotions
including resistance, unity, chaos, change, and peace.
To celebrate the album announcement,
we’re giving away a free download of
“A Light Within” –
a non-album collaboration between
Low Leaf and Philadelphia legend, King Britt,
which the two recorded during sessions
for King’s upcoming Fhloston Paradigm LP,
which was graciously premiered today
via Consequence Of Sound.
You can stream and download
“A Light Within” below,
& be on the lookout for AKASHAALAY
coming out on both cassette + digital download
via Fresh Selects on April 29th.

While we’re getting things ready
for our next proper label releases
in the Spring,
we wanted to drop something
to hold you guys over
In came Portland producer BøneS
to save the day with a quick beat EP
he made while stuck at home last weekend,
during one of the worst snowstorms
the Rose City has seen in recent memory.
You can stream SnoDin in full here
and download for free, or Name Your Price,
via the Bandcamp link below.

Looking back before we move fwd -
our second official label release
is really more of an extension,
or companion piece, to our first.
Inedia features four all new remixes
to Mndsgn‘s Breatharian,
plus a killer new single from the man himself.
Contributing to the project are some of our favorites -
Iman Omari samples two of his own songs to make “Starving,”
Zeroh combines two of Mnd’s beats for a transcendental rap onslaught,
Black Spade gave us a one-take live remix of “Just Air,”
and Sonnymoon graces us with an ambient play off of “Adjustmnts” -
all extended family to Mndsgn that represent four distinct sides to his sound
that were able to bring out the best in each one.
And leading that all off is the Mnd original, “Maintenance” -
a percussively playful new single
that only hints at all that Sir Ringgo has in store
for you all the rest of this year.
You can stream the full EP here
before copping through our Bandcamp page below.
Original Versions of 2, 3, 4, & 5 available on FSX-001: Mndsgn – Breatharian

Continuing the lead-up to our second label release,
today we bring you your second listen to Inedia -
the new Mndsgn companion EP to Breatharian.
Following up Iman Omari’s instrumental re-freak of “Starving,”
here we present a remix done from the opposite approach -
w/ longtime Mnd cohort, Zeroh,
combining two tracks from the Breath tape, “Deergha” and “Kapalabhati,”
leaving the ‘dsgn of both relatively untouched,
and rapping his entire ass off (as he does) on top of them.
The results had us through the roof the first time we heard the track,
and still does every time since.
You can stream “Deerghalabhati” here,
as premiered by IMPOSE Magazine this morning,
and pre-order Inedia, before it drops this Tuesday, below.

Announcing our next official label release,
FSX-002: Mndsgn – Inedia,
a companion EP to the Breatharian tape.
Coming off of his most prolific year to date -
which saw him releasing the Bed EP,
two Frugal Earth mixtapes,
the much-hyped “Sweeney Song” with Danny Brown,
& of course the aforementioned Breatharian album -
Mndsn takes a look back to move fwd this year
with the new EP featuring 1 new original Mnd tune
and 4 remixes by some of his music peers & family.
Inedia is another form of breatharianism,
Inedia is songs from Breatharian in a new form.
The first remix from the project
saw its premiere this morning via Okayplayer.
On it, one of our favorite artists right now,
fellow L.A. producer, Iman Omari,
breathes new life into the album highlight, “Starving” -
first by slowing things down a bit,
then adding in some of his own live elements to the beat
& adding in vocal chops from two of his own tracks –
“Clutch!,” w/ partner-in-crime, MoRuf,
& “Sun Ray (Look Of Love)” from last year’s (VIBE)rations LP.
You can stream Iman’s version of “Starving” here
& catch up on Breatharian below.

After over 4 years of putting out
some of our favorite music,
our man Mndsgn has still never had
an official music video to any of his
hundreds of songs.
So when we set out to release Breatharian,
we made it a personal goal of ours to change that.
And now, thanks to our friends
at The Pressure design studio,
who generously collaborated their talents
to make this video, a first for them as well,
happen – we’re now able to present you
“Hiking / Fif Dim,”
as premiered by XLR8R earlier today.

from Sir Veto Money himself.
Free download on this one,
while we continue to work on an
official Fresh Selects label release
w/ Black Spade for 2014.
Spade also contributes a new
remix on Inedia -
the upcoming companion EP
to Mndsgn’s Breatharian tape,
dropping later this month.
You can stream Spade’s xmas ode,
“Dis Christmas (W/O U),” here
& download via our Bandcamp below.

Concluding our video trilogy for
Coultrain‘s Jungle Mumbo Jumbo album -
today we have my personal favorite one yet,
“Asherah Le Chameleon” -
our hazy and layered interpretation
of Train’s deceptively sweet, apocalyptic love ballad,
as premiered this morning by Pigeons And Planes.
You can watch the video here,
catch up on the previous three installments
and the short film that started it all,
plus follow along with the lyrics -

where has all the innocence gone?
Oh bend your rays to sparkle the dark a prism,
while we dance to the secret masquerade.
Make her a chameleon,
so she’ll see through the signs,
and disguise her eyes to chase the spirals inside,
and if we stay there we won’t care,
when, y, or where
or how much it will cost;
cuz if it all ends today,
and man destroys his own race,
and their homemade catastrophes aren’t far away,
at the very least I can say
that, if only for a short time,
I saw through the mirage.
tell me will I win in the end?
Cuz it’s all transforming into a world that can’t function,
with our spirits’ lives to pay.
Mold her a chameleon,
so she’ll blink and invent time
and wink & float like hot air balloons carried in the sky
and if she stays there she won’t care
to stop to do her hair,
too much time could be lost;
cuz if its our last parade,
and man destroys his own race
and they spray the sky and the ground vibrates,
at the very least we can say
that, if only for a moment in time, we caught an exemplar.
