Released in celebration of the late Jay Dee‘s birthday today,
the Yours Truly blog has teamed up with Stones Throw
to release a new video featuring Dilla peer, Karriem Riggins,
recreating his recent released track, “J Dilla The Greatest,” live on camera.
A tribute to the Yancey classic “Featuring Phat Kat”
from his seminal Welcome 2 Detroit album,
this live version of “The Greatest” gives Riggins a chance to flex a bit -
showing how he recreated the sample flip & made it his own,
by recreating the different elements on various instruments, all played live.
