So this past year, this guy Kendrick Lamar from Compton
put out a rap album that a lot of people liked.
We were some of those people.
And although “Backseat Freestyle” wasn’t one of our favorites from the set
(less Busta Rhymes/Nikki Minaj dungeon dragon overdoing it
& more ATLiens/Devin The Dude “Zeldar” voice flow for us, please) -
the music video for the song, released today,
does add a nice companion piece to the good kid, m.A.A.d. city short film,
bringing to life such beloved characters as the domino-seeking Ken
and Sherane (seen above), the backseat-filling daughter of Splinter.
And after the jump, we’ve included Kendrick’s recent contribution
to the Life+Times blog’s Decoded series,
where he breaks down a true story verse from
gkmc’s “Sing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst.”
Watch it all below.
