This one feels like the beginnings of something special -
…or is it?
“Treat Me Like Fire,”
the debut single & now music video from NYC duo LION BABE
has all the makings of a hit – and to be completely honest,
we’re not quite sure how we feel about that.
The song is catchy – sexy but understated,
the video is extremely well made,
their image is masterfully crafted (if you’re into that),
but, in the interest of full disclosure -
the group’s backing does come w/ a few advantages -
namely that, singer, Jillian Hervey,
is the daughter of model/singer turned Hollywood mainstay, Vanessa Williams
(a fact that surely will take some time before it goes unmentioned).
But, with that said, if you go into it all knowing the above -
it’s still a pretty damn good song.
The jury’s still out if this yet another case of
the “cool indie crowd” getting Lana Del Rey’ed by the powers that be,
but we’ll be giving this single some decent play until then.

The above statement about the “powers that be” is completely off base. Jillian Hervey came up with this song in a freestyle session with long time associate Lucas Goodman. Their collaboration was so successful they decided to put the song out online on their own to test the waters. The song was made independently and distributed the same. The entire album which is expected sometime over the summer is an independent effort. Yes one half of the group is Jillian Hervey Vanessa Williams’ daughter. But so far in interviews I have not heard her bring up her mother nor have I heard her mother promote her. She seems to be trying to do this on her own in her own way and I respect that. And lets not forget she is only half of the group.
