MISC. SLCTIONS:
The Week Of 6/03 – 6/09
Part 2

Artwork by Alexander Shaw (LiL JaBBA)

As promised, here’s Part 2 of the wrap-up of other things we liked
from last week but didn’t have time to feature on its own.

Don’t take it personal – sometimes we’re busy & shit.

If you were busy & didn’t catch Part 1
well then, there’s that too.

VIDEO:
My Dry Wet Mess
“Etcetera”

Great new video from Berlin-based producer, My Dry Wet Mess,
for a song from his Irrational Alphabet album,
which was released on Daedelus’ label, Magical Properties, back in 2010.

Shoutout to Nutriot for the nice find.

VIDEO:
Scrufizzer
“What’s New”

Our interest in Grime music can be slim, in general -
but this latest one from Scrufizzer definitely passes the test.

SUPPORT: Scruffizer “Stream” SINGLE OUT NOW

TRACK:
Flosstradamus
“☮☮☮ Lana’s Theme ☮☮☮”

Chicago production/DJ duo, Flosstradamus
give the Illuminati-sanctioned blogpop princess, Lana Del Ray,
a mighty sinister rinsing w/ their white label remix.

My favorite part about this track is how the beat
sounds like its saying “WIFFLEBALL WIFFLEBALL” the whole tme.
For real… listen to it!

VIDEO:
Z-Ro feat. Chris Ward
“Keep It 100″
(prod. Beanz N Kornbread)

Still one of the most consistent from the South, rapsinger Z-Ro
released a new video featuring S.U.C. compatriot, Chris Ward on the lead verse,
over a re-creation of the Dr. Dre Chronic album cut, “High Powered.”

SUPPORT: Z-Ro – Rother Vandross “Sings The Blues” ALBUM COMING SOON

VIDEO:
Dirty Projectors
“Gun Has No Trigger”

We fucking love this band.
With huge shoes to fill from 2009′s classic (yup), Bitte Orca album -
Dirty Projectors are off to a good start
w/ “Gun Has No Trigger,” the first single from its official follow-up.

SUPPORT: Dirty Projectors – Swing Lo Magellan ALBUM OUT 7/10

VIDEO:
Young L
“Powder Blue Pills”

Full disclosure: I wasn’t really feeling Young L – like, at all.
That was until the self-produced Enigma Theory tape he put out last month,
which showed huge strides taken from The Pack member (yes, alongside Lil B)
in a few different areas –
most notably, his production, song structure, writing, & originality.

Last week he dropped a visual for one of the tape’s brightest moments,
the refreshingly understated, “Powder Blue Pills.”

TRACKS:
Mala
“Calle F”
b/w “Cuba Electronic”

One of the pre-eminent gods of dubstep, Mala (of Digital Mystikz),
has travelled to Brazil with longtime record breaker, Gilles Peterson
& returned w/ a new album, Mala In Brasil, for Gilles’ Brownswood label.

Included below are both sides of the album’s first single,
to be released as a 12″ in August,
w/ the full LP to follow this September.

TRACK:
ShowYouSuck
“All Based Everything
(Don’t Talk To The Cops! Remix)”

Hands down one of the livest groups in the NW,
Seattle’s Don’t Talk To The Cops! give a heavy remix
to Chicago rapper ShowYouSuck‘s Based break-up track,
adding hypnotizing chants, beehive buzzing bass & all other sorts of fun.

A stream & download of the track are both included here, via RubyHornet.

VIDEO:
Killer Mike feat. T.I., Bun B & Trouble
“Big Beast”
(prod. El-P)

If you haven’t seen this one by now you must be
returning from somewhere without an internet connection,
or maybe you’re that one friend that none of your other friends
tell about all the new cool shit cuz you’ll only ruin it for them.

Either way, this is one of the craziest videos released this year,
& it is not AT ALL “safe for work,”
(nor is it really safe for the unemployed either).

SUPPORT: Killer Mike – R.A.P. Music OUT NOW

TRACK:
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti
& DaM-FunK
“Baby”

One of our favorite cross-genre collaborations strike lightning twice,
this time coming together for a cover of the Donnie & Joe Emerson jukebox classic, “Baby.”

Word is Ariel Pink will also be appearing again w/ DaM-Funk
on D-F’s as-yet-untitled (or unannounced at least) new LP,
which should be out on Stones Throw later this year.

You can stream “Baby” + download their previous collaboration below.

VIDEO:
Hit-Boy
“Jay-Z Interview”
(prod. B!nk)

Can’t really say this one is worth all of the attention it received,
although it was understandably due to the strength of Hit-Boy‘s recent production hits
(“N’s In Paris,” A$AP’s “Goldie,” etc.) -
he’s really got a long way to go as far as mic presence & rhyme style are concerned,
BUT – on the other hand, a new Bink! produced track
is pretty much always worth checking out.

So on those grounds, here’s “Jay-Z Interview.”

TRACK:
Laetitia Sadier
“Find Me The Pulse Of The Universe”

One of my favorite voices in all of music,
Laetitia Sadier (best known as one of the leads in Stereolab for a few decades)
is releasing her second solo album, Silecio, next month
& has released a typically awesome, calming free single this week.

Pretty much – if you’re into that sort of thing… you’ll be into this.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

SUPPORT: Laetitia Sadier – Silencio OUT JULY 28th

TRACK:
Hodgy Beats
“Fordabitches”

OFWGKTA/Mellowhype’r, Hodgy Beats leaked this loose mixtape joint
via his twitter last week,
a lovingly-titled “Fordabitches” one-off
over the classic D’Angelo album cut, “Alright.”

You can stream & download it here.
It’s for the dudes too if they want it (not like that).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

VIDEOS:
Lil B
“Talking That Based” (prod. Florida Goon)
b/w “Flowers Rise” (prod. Blinded I)

Out of the handful of videos Lil B dropped last week,
these two were our favorite.

Video highlights include The Based God dancing in a sushi restaurant,
touching wood,
& looking at ceramic fish.

Based.
