MISC. SLCTIONS:
THE WEEK OF 5/27 – 06/02

There is a lot of worthwhile music content coming out right now -
way too much for us to cover it all as it happens.

So here’s a place for us to round-up some of the other selections
that we didn’t get a chance to feature on their own
from throughout this past week.

Cuz sometimes I got other shit to do.

VIDEO:
Gang Colours
“To Repel Ghosts”

Cool new animated video from the Brownswood-signed Gang Colours,
as spotted on Keep On Repeat.

TRACK:
Groundislava
“Weekend In The Tropics”

Here’s the first track from TV Dream -
the new EP from FoF’s Groundislava.
When XLR8R debuted the track,
they described it as a sign of Lava’s production maturing
& “departing from 16-bit to, well, 32-bit.”

Tiiiiiight.

SUPPORT: Groundislava – TV Dream EP OUT JUNE 26th

TRACK:
Frank B
“Chain Of Fools”

Its rare these days that I’ll come across a proper House track that I’m really into,
but this new song from Ireland’s Frank B,
as spotted on XLR8R,
is a much-welcome exception.

VIDEO:
A Film By Harmony Korrine -
The Black Keys
“Gold On The Ceiling”

That dude Harmony Korrine,
the director of Gummo (you know, the fucked up movie they watch in Belly?)
& who also just recently cast James Franco to play a character based on Riff Raff -
delivers this Harmony-Korrine-as-fuck video for The Black Keys.
I mean… he really Harmony Korrine’d the fuck out on this one.

Along with Teletubby-like dummies of The Black Keys holding themselves
for long periods of time,
the vieo also features the ATL Twins -
a pair of biological twins who share a bed & only sleep with the same girl,
posturing in front of jiggling cheese.

Of course.

SUPPORT: The Black Keys – El Camino OUT NOW

TRACK:
Theophilus London
“Golden”
(prod. Twin Shadow)

I haven’t even been checking for Theophilus like that,
ever since he stopped working w/ Machine Drum
(whose production was always Theo’s saving grace, to me) -
but, Twin Shadow, on the other hand -
has a pretty flawless track record to date.

So here’s this,
as spotted on illRoots.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

VIDEO:
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
“Man On Fire”

I swear every time I hear the first few seconds of this song,
I think it’s gonna be a Johnny Cash cover -
but in a really good kinda way.

The video feels a little bit like a PSA or maybe a McDonald’s commercial,
but whatever – its still a good song.

VIDEO:
Wiz Khalifa
“The Grinder”
(prod. Jake One)

Wiz is pretty unamazing to me in general,
but this Jake One beat is really dope
& Wiz didn’t get in the way of it.

We’ll take it.

And the Juicy J cameo throughout the whole video alone makes it worth the watch.

DJ MIX:
Supreme Cuts -
LRAD Chicago

For anyone curious about some of the new sounds coming out of Chicago right now
(& if you’re not – you really should get curious) -
production duo Supreme Cuts have made this really dope starter kit mix
featuring tracks from themselves + plenty of their Chi contemporaries,
including The-Drum, Sich Mang, Haleek Maul, and more.

Footwork, hot dogs, & bikinis on top of cop cars?
Sold!

VIDEO:
El-P
“The Full Retard”

New one for El-P‘s first single from his just released Cancer 4 Cure album.
It’s like if that show, Greg The Bunny was actually funny.

SUPPORT: El-P – Cancer 4 Cure OUT NOW

TRACK:
Charts
“How Did You Get So Mean”

New track from PRTLND band, Charts – as debuted by Into The Woods.
Regarding the song, the band said it
“goes well with make outs and wait for it.. even break-ups.”

No arguments here.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

SUPPORT: Charts – Tease EP OUT JUNE 6th

TRACK:
Rome Fortune
feat. Wara From The NBHD
“Mortal Kombat”
(prod. CEEJ & Key!)

Free single from Rome Fortune & CEEJ‘s upcoming Lolo project,
spotted on Steady Bloggin

SUPPORT: Rome Furtune & CEEJ – Lolo OUT JUNE 4th

VIDEO:
Pusha T
“Exodus 23:1″
(feat. The-Dream,
prod. Rico Beats)

Not really too interested in the “beef” this one is trying to start
(although c’mon… Drake?!? – somebody had to say something!),
but I fucking love this song.

The video didn’t quite capture the dark & ominous feel the track had to me,
but I figured it was still worth including.

VIDEO:
Feels Like Home #45:
Death Songs
“Ophelia”

Another great one from PRTLND-based Into The Woods
always awesome Feels Like Home series,
where they cram a bunch of cameras & recording equipment into a Portland’s band home
& let the magic ensue.

This one features Death Songs
performing a re-imagined version of their once folky song, “Ophelia.”
Watch how lead singer Nick Delffs (also of Shaky Hands)
plays the keys & guitar at the same time -
pretty crafty.

VIDEO:
Crate Diggers:
Pete Rock’s Vinyl Collection

Disregarding the nontroversy of T.R.O.Y. Fiasco-gate 2012,
Fuse aired their latest episode in their Crate Diggers series this week,
w/ Pete Rock showing off his home record collection.

I enjoy how annoyed he seems w/ the guy the off-camera interviewer
at a few points during the clip.

VIDEO:
Juicy J
“20 Zig Zags”
(prod. SpaceGhostPurrp)

Juicy J’s recent resurgence is a pretty interesting one,
although at times it is sad to see him reduce himself to just barely above a meme.
But whatever, this one’s worth it for the SpaceGhostPurrp production alone.

Ok, and J’s “KEEP COOKIES!!!!!” adlib is pretty classic too.

VIDEO:
Bling47 Breaks – Dilla Edition:
DJ Spinna on Slum Village “Get Dis Money”
(directed by Waajeed)

B47 rolled out its latest episode
in Waajeed’s self-directed & edited Bling47 Breaks series,
still in its “Dilla Edition” of discussing records that Jay Dee had sampled over the years,
this time bringing back recurring guest, DJ Spinna
to give his two cents on the SV classic.
