We’re really excited about this one.
Today, one of PRTLND’s best kept secrets -
producer Rap Class
of the Dropping Gems crew –
finally releases his debut album,
ironically (but fittingly) enough, entitled Greatest Hits.
Consisting of eight original songs
that were all made on his Korg Electribe ESX1
between the years of 2006 and 2009 (see? we told you it’s been a while),
Rap Class comes off of the ropes swinging
w/ this first tape, showing more precise chops
& a more intricate sense of timing than a lot of his peers
that are already on their fourth or fifth (or 20th…) release by now.
And he’s been getting a lot of love for it too.
Last week, XLR8R premiered the tape’s first leak, “Brothers Superhero”
& then a few days after, L.A. beat scene radio hub, Dublab
did the same w/ the follow-up, “When You’re With A Girl.”
Adding on to the melee,
Dropping Gems has graciously given us the exclusive
on the first non-album track to be released
around the project,
another oldie but goodie – simply called “One Word.”
About the making of the track, Rap told us the following:
“I just had fun with ONE WORD, but I first had to learn to let go. Sometimes when I sample, I think because I know how the sample sounds, the beat has to be in the same tempo or key or whatever. This was the first time that I really took everything out of context and realized that if I loved the song, the sample will sound right no matter what.”
And so w/ that said,
you can stream Greatest Hits here
& preview “One Word” below,
before getting your free download of the track
+ the two previous album leaks,
& most importantly –
