One of our favorite producers,
Detroit-born Karriem Riggins
(who is equal parts a live jazz drummer as he is a beatmaker),
released a discography-spanning mix of his production work
as his contribution to the Stones Throw Podcast series
earlier this week.

Putting (almost) all of his tracks from the last 10 years or so
in one place for the first time,
Karriem Riggins Produced That
more clearly shows what some of us have known all along -
that Karriem is one of the best producers doing it right now,
& as infrequent as his album placements may be,
they’re almost always guaranteed to be the highlight.

And just as on his 2009 Music Kaleidoscope mix CD,
Karriem’s DJ’ing style isn’t as much about blending & mixing the records,
as it is cut-dropping them when you least expect it -
but the mix is still an essential lesson all the same.
