Never ones to stay quiet or stagnant for long – the royal galactic-fOnk duo Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Perkins return to Earth, & this time they’ve brought some friends & family along with them on the Ship.

To coincide with the launch of their new site, SomeOthaShip.com, which features exclusive music downloads/previews, lyrics, Georgia paintings/sketchings & more, G&D present us with a 21-track SomeOthaShip Connect 2011 sampler. The album showcases whats in store for their SomeOthaShip label this year & beyond and features something both for and from everyone as they include the entire OS roster & family.

Some names to look out for include Riff Raff McGriff – an up-and-coming MC/producer and heir to the throne of the Oxnard, CA dynasty who I think will be making a lot of noise in the coming months; Kadence – a Michigan lyricist best known for his work with Dabrye; the debut of The Blackhouse – Georgia’s upcoming electro/house music project, as well as the contiuation of her one-woman jazz band alias, Jyoti, whose debut Gilles Peterson hailed & awarded as the Jazz Album Of The Year. Non-label guests include Madlib, Aloe Blacc, Miki Vale, and Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, & with even Dudley’s daughters & Georgia’s siblings providing tracks – SomeOthaShip Connect 2011 is by all means a family affair.

After releasing both his guest-filled production album, Dirty Science, and his critically acclaimed full-length collaboration with Blu, Below The Heavens, within a year of each other – as well as landing major label placements with Mobb Deep & 50 Cent (“Pearly Gates”), Jurassic 5 (“Baby Please”), and Kardinal Offishall & Akon (“Graveyard Shift”) – it seems as though Exile has been taking some time off since 2007. But looks can be deceiving, as Ex has merely been locked up in the lab, experimenting and plotting another onslaught of releases for 2009. Projects already on the agenda include a full-length albums with rising talent, Fashawn, a handful of tracks on the latest from longtime collaborator, Blame One, a solo MC effort from Ex, and there have even been talks of an album with underground favorite, Shawn Jackson. But before any of those – there is this: Radio.

A sampling experiment gone right, Radio quickly turned into a passion project for Exile – one that has already taken years in the making. Rarely one to take the expected path, Ex decided to flip the script a bit and instead of doing the typical instrumental album, challenged himself to only sampling sounds taken from his local L.A. radio waves to make his beats & statements with. The result is a sonic collage of crisp drums, static feedback, talking samples, and sounds from a wide array of genres – all filtered through Exile’s signature seamlessly chopped-up, tempo-switching style, and composed to convey succint life messages to the audience.

For the unveiling of this new project, Exile was kind enough to bless me with a few tracks from the forthcoming album, which I’ll be spreading out between now and the album’s release on January 20th. So to start it off, here’s a free download of “In Love,” a track which most people have been trying to hunt down ever since Ex first debuted at the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona a few weeks ago. A few quality low-quality rips from the video have surfaced, but this is the official, full-length, mastered version – available here for the first time anywhere. One of the easier-to-place selections from Exile’s radio waves palette, the main samples of “In Love” consist of re-arranged quotes from a fundraiser on Carlos Ninos’ Spaceways radio show on KPFK, matched with chops of a Dwight Trible song from the same broadcast.

And as usual, stick around “after the jump,” where I’ve provided three personal highlights from some of Exile’s lesser known instrumental works, taken from various compilations. For those who have been sleeping, 14KT is a producer/MC/DJ from the Ann Arbor, Michigan-based collectives Athletic Mic League & the Lab Techs. And, quiet as kept – he’s also one of the most consistent producers in the game right now. Recent productions include about half of his AML fam, Buff1‘s, new album, There’s Only 1, and 2 of my personal favorites from Invincible‘s ShapeShifters (“Sledgehammer!” & “No Easy Answers”) – as well as placements with One Be Lo, Phat Kat, Now On, Wildchild, and others.

Anyway… these are the first 4 of 6 leaked tracks (1 a week until the release date) from KT himself, off of his debut solo album (the soundtrack to his life, as he puts it), The Golden Hour, dropping October 14th.

And they even come with liner notes!

“This version of this song featuring Stones Throw artist Aloe Blacc, is actually NOT going to be on my soundtrack. However, without telling Aloe Blacc the real inspiration behind the track, one day he sent me this version, which happened to go with the concept and I liked it so much I HAD to share it EXCLUSIVELY with you.

My inspiration for this joint was going through a relationship that became so trying & serious that it was hard 2 just have fun & chill again with that person, U know? I freaked the sample as symbolism for how I felt. Tried 2 make the song sound “new” again in a sense. Kinda like how I wish I could do the same with the relationship. Enjoy.”

I’m a night person so I needed some theme music! Ha!
I took every aspect of “the night” & chopped it into this joint.
I think I chopped 4 or 5 different sayings of “the” from the singer. How intricate is that? Yep, too much time on my hands.

Years ago, I asked my bestfriend Keri to name one word that described me. She replied “Illustrious.” I was like WHOA!
When I made this, I was listening to alot of late 70s/early 80s Rock music. I wanted to make a Gospel song, but I didn’t want to do it in the traditional sense sonically. So I wanted to make my version a 80′s Rock Gospel Song!
Even though Keri described me as Illustrious, I could never ever come close to letting my little light shine without the Grace, Love, and Power of GOD! So I dedicated this joint to GOD and how I feel with Him in my life!!
If you feel the same way, hopefully you will feel the song. I know I’ll get criticized for my singing, but I don’t care.
I was expressing myself!! That’s what music is about right?

“When I started putting the soundtrack together, there was a scene in my “life movie” where I was reflecting on important memories, people, and situations that made me who I am. I envisioned a tiny purple spaceship,slowly flying inside of my brain (kind of like the movie “Innerspace” haha)… where you see snapshots of different moments….giving you a tour of everything that was going through my mind.
