This video is gross as hell (although well done), but this song is still my shit. Originally heard on the Flu Shot Mixtape and is now the first single from their upcoming debut album, Wires In Love, coming out on Pope/Universal.

New video directed by Luke Wyatt for dam-funk alias, Wavelength’s debut 7″ put out by Glydezone. Cop it.

devonwho “braketime”
New self-made video by the good homie devonwho for his joint “Braketime.”

“Today we shot the music video for ‘Fuck Work’ for the band Cubic Zirconia, directed by Nancy Mitchell, and featuring our good friend Tiombe Lockhart, who is co-starring in the next Three/21 feature film Inside A Change. It was a really crazy shoot in New Jersey that lead to some angry landlords, curious tenants, horny plumbers and truckers and gratuitous stripping. The concept takes place in the surreal world of Cubic Zirconia where 4 overworked, bored friends decide to skip work and put some fun in their mundane lives. Enjoy the footage and check out Cubic Zirconia’s music here!”

Be on the look out for the “Fuck Work” video dropping soon, as well as the extended single dropping May 10th on Savant Guard. The EP will also feature remixes by Dam-Funk, Dekker & Johan, Andy George, Nacho Lovers, Romanthony, Renet Goulet, Proper Villians, and more.

Alright, so first things first – lets get some FAQ’s out of the way about the Queen Of Doom, Ms. Tiombe Lockhart.

“Where the *#$^ is Tiombe?!” Brooklyn.
“Why wasn’t she on the new PPP??” The whole cast changed, dummy.
“What’s she working on??” Cubic Zirconia.

CZ is a new group consisting Tiombe and her new partners in crime, Nick & Todd, who are both former members of the group, Men, Women & Children. With their powers combined (Captain Planet style) – they are Cubic Zirconia. Their sound is an amalgamation of both their former entities’ respective sounds, but more than anything – it’s something brand new.

As an introduction to the group, they’ve put together a 30+ minute mix, which as they put it is “a few of our tunes, a few songs we like, and some other stuff mixed in for good measure.” And if you caught the debut of one of their first songs, “I Wanna Freebase You” (included here) in the FSR podcast last week, then you should have an idea of what to expect – but even that is just the beginning. I think it’s always good to shake things up a bit – so you guys don’t get too comfortable. Leave a comment and lemme know what you think of this one. WARNING: THIS IS NOT ON SOME NEO-SOUL OR HIP-HOP SHIT - SO DON’T GO INTO IT WITH THOSE EXPECTATIONS.

FRESH SELECTS RADIO #1

Today marks the debut of my new podcast, simply titled Fresh Selects Radio. Even though this is the first episode, it feels like the second in a way, because its more or less a follow-up to the Loose Joints mixtape I put together last fall. Just like that, its a collection showcasing both new and unreleased tracks from some of my favorite artists, some projects I’ll be working on in the near future, artists you should be on the lookout for, and more. I’ve also thrown in a few tracks that have been previously been posted on the site that you might’ve missed. But unlike the Loose Joints .zip, this podcast is one single track, which freed me up and allowed me to include some super-exclusives that I know I couldn’t post as individual downloads.

Originally, I was going to host the podcast like a radio show – but instead I decided to let the music speak for itself. If you feel like it sounds unfinished, I left the instrumental interludes I was going to talk over in the mix, so feel free to fill in the blanks yourself. However, if people get on some bullshit and rip some of the exclusives from the mix and re-post them as downloads on other sites, then next time out I’ll have to talk all over all the good shit – so just behave yourselves & act right and I’ll be able to keep bringing you the latest & greatest without any problems.

I might still write up some liner notes to go along with the tracks, but it might be a while. We’ll see what the feedback & response is like first (*cough*leaveacomment!*cough) and then take it from there. So yeah, lemme know what you think. While I Was Gone

I’m back, bidges!! Did ya miss me? Haha.

First off, I just wanted to say Thank You once again to everyone who’s hit me up about the Loose Joints mixtape. I’m glad you guys liked it – I’ve got some more mixes on their way soon, so stay tuned for more on those.

I’ll be back to doing my regularly scheduled selections starting tomorrow, but for now, here’s some release updates on past selections, along with a quick rundown of what’s been going on while I was away.

For everyone who’s been hounding me about “Where’s Tiombe?? When she’s coming out with something?!?” – I’ve got some news just for you. Tiombe Lockhart has aligned with Nick & Todd (formerly of the band, Men, Women & Children) and have formed a new group, Cubic Zirconia. They’ve just recently launched their official MySpace page with two new tracks, “Fuck Work” and “I Wanna Freebase You.” They’ll be releasing a sampler mixtape soon, so stay tuned to right here for much more from them soon. You can also check out their hilarious new blog page while you’re waiting.

The homie Jneiro Jarel (AKA Dr. Who Dat?, etc.) joins the podcast world with a brand new mix “for all you weird shoegaze heads.” Selections include TV On The Radio, Cocteau Twins, Micah & more – plus the debut of a new Willie Isz track (Jneiro’s project w/ Khujo Goodie). You can download the podcast and subscribe to future episodes here.

T3 of Slum Village un-earthed a lost gem from SV’s formative years called “Drop The Drums” on his new blog spot, T3′s Night Gallery. The song is a rare glimpse into the early stages of legends in the making, or as T3 puts it, “You can get a taste from true vintage circa 1990’s SV, when we were all about characters, alter egos and acting on songs…the good old days.”

The boys of Johnson&Jonson are at it again – with a new video clip for their track, “Up All Night.” Big ups to Okayplayer for getting the first scoop on that one. Blu also added a fresh batch of new tracks on his MySpace page – so be sure to check those out as well.

The Black Milk-produced, Invincible & Finale collaboration, “Don’t Sleep is available on iTunes now along with the Black Milk instrumental. So be sure to support that, and be on the look out for the 12″ coming soon.

And on the soul side of things, Jesse Boykins III’s full-length debut, The Beauty Created is out now on Amazon MP3, with iTunes & CD formats soon to follow.
