FRESHclusive:
Waajeed & Coultrain
“We Gotta Have Peace” b/w “Just Talk”

Just because no one else can, I’ve got two new exclusive tracks from PPP collaborators, Waajeed & Coultrain, for you guys today. Both songs are taken from the Nuggets project, a collection of songs made for the UK division of Universal Music. The story goes – Universal reached out to Waajeed to sample of their classic back catalog properties (including the vaults of Motown, Stax and others) and make new compositions out of them to solicit for use in movies, TV shows and other licensing deals. So Waajeed brought in Coultrain, the chief songwriter & co-star from PPP’s Abundance album, to provide the lyrics & vocals for the bulk of the songs; as well as LA-based singer, JimiJames, for a few tracks as well. So to make a long story short – these tracks probably won’t be released anywhere else – so get em while you still can and thank me later.

First up, we have a full length stream of “Just Talk,” a lament for the strugglers out there (i.e. all of us) that was recorded a while back but is all too relevant at the moment. To go along with it is a free download of the more upbeat but equally anthemic, Soul Train line inducing, “We Gotta Have Peace.” Both tracks were written to accompany certain cinematic scenes – but I think that they more than stand on their own two feet as individual songs as well. But you tell me – leave a comment and let me know what you think about them. And while you’re there, the first one to leave a comment naming the main samples for both songs will get an exclusive bonus track sent to them (so be sure to use your real e-mail address as the log-in).

Also, if you’re gonna be in L.A. or the Bay Area this weekend, be sure to catch Waajeed & Coultrain rocking alongside the brand new PPP live line-up, which now features MonicaBlaire on lead female vocals & Zo! on the keys. They’ll be playing at Mighty in San Francisco this Friday and then at the Dakota Live Music Lounge in Santa Monica this Saturday, the 28th. See Waajeed’s MySpace page for more info on both of those.

Does the “We Gotta Have Peace” track use Bobby Byrd “If You Don’t Work [You Don't Eat]?”

My sample-spotting skills has diminished over the years. LOL

These are smooth, by the way. I am not big on soul stuff, but for some reason I am always open to it when it comes from Waajeed and the PPP contingent. 1
